Something exciting is happening on our construction site — and you can truly see it now.
The outline of our new footprint is becoming clearer by the day. Walls are rising, spaces are taking shape, and the vision we’ve been sharing with you is turning into something tangible. One of the most exciting milestones? The elevator shaft is officially built.
This addition is more than a structural upgrade — it’s a statement about who we are.
When our new museum opens, families will be able to access all three floors with ease. Grandparents won’t have to pause at the stairs. Caregivers pushing strollers won’t have to strategize their route. Children and adults with mobility challenges will have full access to every exhibit, experience, and opportunity. The elevator ensures that our museum is welcoming, inclusive, and truly accessible to all.
We are incredibly grateful to the partners who make progress like this possible. A special thank you to The William A. and Martha H. Hillenbrand Foundation for their generous $50,000 contribution to our capital campaign. Support from community champions like the Hillenbrand Foundation helps transform steel, concrete, and blueprints into a vibrant, child-centered destination for southeastern Indiana.
Each beam raised and wall poured represents the collective investment of a community that believes in its children. Because of you, this building is not just growing, it’s becoming a place where every child belongs.
We can’t wait to show you what’s next. Stay tuned… and thank you for building this with us.

I read the post about the $50,000 boost and big progress for the Kennedy Douglass Foundation, and it was inspiring to see how the grant is helping expand programs that support people with neurological differences. Seeing the smiles of participants and hearing about new workshops made me feel hopeful about community growth and inclusion. I remember a late night when I had to do my engineering assignment just to finish a tough deadline and felt that same mix of relief and pride. It reminded me that support and effort together can lead to great progress.
